Job Description

Our client, a distributor of medium-to-extra-heavy commercial trucks, is seeking a Safety, Health & Environment Assistant to join its team.

The company is looking for a diligent and experienced Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Assistant to join their dynamic team. As a SHE Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety, health, and environmental compliance of our client’s mining site in Zvishavane.

If you have a degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field, along with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in mining operations, we encourage you to apply. This is an immediate start position, offering competitive remuneration and additional allowances.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of safety, health, and environment policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and recommend corrective measures.
  • Collaborate with site personnel to promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with established protocols.
  • Provide training and awareness sessions to employees on safety practices, emergency response, and environmental protection.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and initiatives, suggesting improvements as necessary.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, analyzing root causes and preparing detailed reports.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety-related incidents, inspections, and training activities.
  • Liaise with external regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with legal requirements and standards.
  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging safety technologies.
  • Assist in emergency response planning and participate in drills and exercises.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in mining operations, with a focus on safety.
  • Proven track record in implementing effective safety protocols to safeguard personnel and mitigate risks.
  • Proficiency in regulatory compliance and a strong understanding of relevant legislation.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical mindset.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • High level of professionalism and integrity.
