Midlands State University (MSU) is looking for two skilled Cooks to join its dynamic team. As a Cook at MSU, you will have the opportunity to showcase your culinary expertise and contribute to the provision of high-quality meals for the university community. Join our team and be a part of creating an enjoyable dining experience for students, staff, and visitors.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare meals for staff, ensuring the highest standards of taste, presentation, and hygiene.
- Set up and organize the kitchen, including the preparation of ovens, utensils, and grills for the shift.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
- Handle multiple orders efficiently, ensuring timely preparation and delivery of meals.
- Properly store food and detergents, following appropriate storage and labeling procedures.
- Regularly sanitize and clean workstations, utensils, and equipment to maintain hygiene standards.
- Monitor and maintain appropriate stock levels, ensuring efficient inventory management.
- Serve prepared food items at the designated serving point, adhering to portion control guidelines.
- Manage assets in the kitchen, ensuring their proper use, maintenance, and cleanliness.
- Control stock and minimize wastage through careful planning and monitoring of ingredients.
- Conduct quality checks on the freshness of food before and during the preparation process.
- Coordinate and control stock movement during and after service time to optimize efficiency.
- Taste prepared food to ensure quality and make necessary adjustments if required.
- Handle requisitions of food and non-food items for the work station promptly and accurately.
- Follow laid down handover and takeover procedures to ensure smooth operations.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support the overall functioning of the kitchen.
Qualifications and Experience:
- 5 ordinary level passes, including English Language.
- At least 2 years of proven experience in catering operations.
- A Certificate/Diploma in a related field will be an added advantage.
