Food poisoning feared as Dudula Movement leader Nhlanhla Lux Dlamini refuses to eat

Operation Dudula members have asked police not to give their leader Nhlanhla ‘Lux’ Dlamini any food while he’s in custody because he will be poisoned, his movement allies believe.

Nhlanhla Lux, a leader of a vigilante group, Dudula Movement, which seeks to drive out all foreigners who fled their countries to look for employment in South Africa, will be spending this weekend behind bars and his bail application will reportedly be heard on Monday, 28 March 2022.

WHY WON’T NHLANHLA LUX EAT FOOD FROM POLICE?

Patriotic Alliance deputy president, Kenny Kunene said they believe the leader will be poisoned behind bars.

In an interview with eNCA, Kunene said Nhlanhla Lux’s arrest brought about a lot of confusion as his case number says Dobsonville whereas he was arrested in Hyde Park. The crime intelligence didn’t even know where he was arrested.

“He is supposed to be at the Dobsonville police station yet he is at Johannesburg Central police station,” he added.

Kunene said the station commander in Hyde Park said he had no control over Nhlanhla Lux because he was not arrested by his officers. He should instead talk to the investigating officer to find out what must happen going forward.

“We said Nhlanhla Lux must not eat food at the police station because we suspect that he might be poisoned. We have also asked that Nhlanhla Lux must be put in a cell alone because last night he slept with people he does not know.

“We know what happens in police custodies, we requested and there was an agreement that he will get his cell. His mother will be the only one who will buy food and deliver it to him at the police station.”

OPERATION DUDULA LEADER BEHIND BARS

Nhlanhla Lux reportedly faces charges of housebreaking, theft, and malicious damage to property.

It is believed that the case against Nhlanhla Lux Dlamini and Operation Dudula members was opened by Soweto resident Victor Ramerafe, whose home was allegedly ransacked by Operation Dudula members on Sunday.

The group claimed to be acting on tip-offs from the community that drugs were being sold from Ramerafe’s home.

When asked about this, police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello said Nhlanhla Lux was brought in by police for questioning on Thursday evening, 24 March 2022.

Operation Dudula secretary-general Zandile Dabula addressed scores of the movement’s members outside court, telling them that Nhlanhla Lux was not appearing as the matter had been postponed to Monday.

“A person of interest was brought in for questioning tonight, 24 March 2022 by the police with regard to a housebreaking case opened at Dobsonville Police Station on Wednesday.”
