Over the past few years, the U.S. has dominated the globe in being the most popular university destination for students from all over the world. Somehow, even with the growth of other English-taught options in other countries, numerous students still choose to study in the U.S.A.

Why it is better to study in USA?
The United States of America (USA) has the best education in the world and hosts the most number of international students in the world. Quality education, unique curriculum, multicultural environment, and abundant opportunities are just some of the reasons why many International students want to study in the US.

South Africa has over 100 universities and higher learning institutions, and is ranked fifth in terms of total number of universities and higher education institutions per country in Africa. Graduates and Job Seekers who studied in the United States will generally easily find jobs in South Africa and anywhere else across the world as American education is the best in the world.

Meanwhile, applications are now open for the EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program. Through regular meetings and seminars, this program, funded by the United States Mission to South Africa, supports talented and determined learners and students from low-income backgrounds, to apply for scholarships and admission to colleges and universities in the United States.

The EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program for undergraduate studies is open to current matriculants and gap year students only. The program finances the cost of the application process, including registration fees for the required standardized examinations.

South African citizens or permanent residents with a strong academic record, robust participation in extracurricular activities, involvement in leadership roles, and an excellent community service record are encouraged to apply.

Students who wish to pursue postgraduate studies in the United States are requested to complete the graduate application form.

Successful applicants will work with a team of EducationUSA Advisers from May 2022 to August 2023 to try to secure places and financial assistance to begin study in the U.S. in August 2023. Participants must have access to the internet on monthly basis during the program for full participation.

Entrance into the EducationUSA Opportunity Fund Program does not guarantee a scholarship or financial assistance to study in the United States but over the last eight years the dedicated EducationUSA team has helped more than 200 excellent South African students make their dream of studying in the United States come true. Nineteen-year-old Anesu ‘Nesu’ Nhamo is one of these students.

“EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program is the reason I made it to Study in the United States. They not only funded my application fees, visa, flights, and provided me with a settling allowance, but also guided me through the process of applying and building a strong application for admission,” he noted.

Nesu, who says he is from Pretoria, South Africa, though his Shona first name and surname suggest that he is originally from Zimbabwe, is studying computer science & engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

“Studying in the USA is a dream come true and wouldn’t have been possible without the help the EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program,” Nesu said.
