CeSHHAR Zimbabwe is a leading organization specializing in Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH), HIV, and AIDS research in Zimbabwe. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MOHCC) and the National AIDS Council (NAC), CeSHHAR Zimbabwe is implementing a National Sex Work Programme aimed at reducing HIV acquisition and transmission among female, male, and transgender sex workers, as well as their clients.

By focusing on improving awareness, access to prevention and treatment services, CeSHHAR Zimbabwe is dedicated to reducing the spread of STI and HIV infections.

CeSHHAR Zimbabwe is looking for six dedicated Outreach Workers to join its dynamic team in Bulawayo; Gweru; Kadoma; Mutare; Mt Darwin and Vic Falls. As an Outreach Worker, you will play a crucial role in improving access to HIV/STI preventive services among key populations, including sex workers.

Your responsibilities will involve engaging with these populations, providing education on transmission and prevention, and facilitating access to testing and treatment services. This is an opportunity to contribute to the reduction of STI and HIV infections through community outreach and support.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify and recruit peer educators for the program.
  • Attend trainings and meetings to teach peer education programs.
  • Supervise peer educators, including caseload management, IPC, microplanning, and self-help groups.
  • Network with stakeholders involved in the program.
  • Regularly reach out to sex workers at identified sites, providing STI/HIV preventive packages with the assistance of peer educators.
  • Conduct regular visits and meetings with sex workers to enhance access to STI/HIV services.
  • Maintain mapping of sex work populations alongside other outreach workers.
  • Educate sex workers on the risks of STI/HIV transmission and prevention, testing services, and treatment options.
  • Encourage and facilitate regular STI/HIV testing among sex workers.
  • Maintain accurate records of activities and submit weekly reports to the Clinics Manager.
  • Distribute condoms regularly and demonstrate proper condom use.
  • Perform any other tasks related to the program as assigned by the supervisor, including data entry into the existing database.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in Social Sciences or a related field.
  • Counselling diploma and experience in HIV/AIDS counselling are advantageous.
  • Demonstrable experience and interest in community outreach work, with the ability to mobilize communities and build rapport with collaborating institutions.
  • Current and valid certificate in Good Clinical Practice and Ethics is an advantage.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly sex workers, is beneficial.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with a high respect for confidentiality.
