The successful candidate will be responsible for fabricating and welding quality structures, interpreting working drawings, and ensuring the completion of tasks within specified deadlines. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the maintenance and upkeep of the university’s facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interpret working drawings accurately and fabricate and weld quality structures using appropriate methods and machinery.
  • Perform project tasks as instructed, ensuring tasks are completed without the need for rework.
  • Plan for tooling and spares required for daily and scheduled works.
  • Conduct risk assessments for each task, prioritizing safety and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to establish and implement appropriate working procedures to meet deadlines.
  • Deliver against agreed key performance indicators within the specified area of work.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the work area, ensuring proper storage and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations and guidelines while carrying out welding activities.
  • Inspect completed welds for defects and ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot and repair welding equipment as needed.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior welders to improve their skills and productivity.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Artisan Welder Class 1 certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a welder.
  • Experience in a tertiary institution would be an added advantage.
