Job Description

Gwanda State University (GSU) is a prestigious higher education institution located in Gwanda, Zimbabwe. The university, currently situated at the former Epoch Mine in Gwanda, is dedicated to providing quality education and fostering academic excellence.

GSU is in the process of constructing its main campus on an 87-hectare site in Gwanda, accompanied by a 2.5-hectare farm in Filabusi. As an esteemed educational institution, GSU offers a conducive environment for personal and professional growth.

Gwanda State University is looking for a dynamic and experienced Procurement Officer to join our team. As a Procurement Officer, you will play a key role in the management and execution of procurement activities. This position offers an attractive remuneration package, including medical aid, leave, and pension benefits, to the successful candidate.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Execute the University Procurement plan, ensuring compliance with procurement policies and procedures.
  • Prepare tender documents for procurement requirements, including specifications, terms, and conditions.
  • Distribute tender documents to potential bidders and facilitate the bid evaluation process.
  • Respond to queries from clients regarding procurement processes and procedures.
  • Maintain and update procurement records, ensuring accurate documentation and record-keeping.
  • Expedite procurement activities to ensure timely delivery of goods and execution of contracts.
  • Foster a safe and hygienic environment within the Procurement Unit.
  • Facilitate the safe and environmentally friendly disposal of assets.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify procurement needs and provide guidance on procurement best practices.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and regulations related to procurement.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A first degree in Procurement, Purchasing, Logistics, or Supply Chain.
  • Minimum of 5 Ordinary level subjects, including Mathematics and English.
  • At least one (1) year of post-qualification experience in procurement, purchasing, logistics, or supply chain.
  • Experience in public procurement will be an added advantage.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong understanding of public supply chain procedures and regulations.
  • Proficiency in using procurement software and tools.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to make sound decisions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
