Population Solutions for Health (PSH) is looking for a passionate and dedicated HIV Prevention Officer to join our dynamic team. As an HIV Prevention Officer, you will play a pivotal role in implementing social behaviour change strategies, promoting the uptake of HIV prevention services, and ensuring the effective utilization of prevention products.

This is a field-based position with a focus on community engagement and program optimization, offering a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference in the fight against HIV in Zimbabwe. We offer competitive remuneration and attractive incentives to the successful candidate.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engage community leaders and stakeholders to raise awareness about HIV biomedical prevention methods, including VMMC and PrEP.
  • Organize and facilitate individual and group sessions to create demand and optimize the uptake of biomedical HIV prevention services.
  • Adapt available tools and guidelines to the local context, ensuring safe and effective utilization of HIV prevention services and products.
  • Promote the dissemination of HIV prevention messaging through various channels to individuals at risk of HIV infection.
  • Supervise and support community health workers in delivering accurate and safe SBC sessions on HIV prevention.
  • Conduct community dialogues to assess the acceptability and quality of biomedical HIV prevention services.
  • Collaborate with health facilities to map service delivery areas and formulate micro plans for the provision of HIV prevention services.
  • Engage local stakeholders in the implementation of facility micro plans through participatory approaches.
  • Support and train community health workers, community leaders, and institutional health leads on biomedical HIV prevention.
  • Facilitate the retention and adherence of community health workers to the minimum standards of obtaining informed consent for biomedical HIV prevention services.
  • Establish and maintain effective referral pathways and linkages between communities and biomedical HIV prevention service delivery points.
  • Foster synergies with other relevant programs in the district to ensure optimized holistic care for individuals at risk of HIV infection.
  • Review the implementation of facility micro plans with health facility structures and provide necessary support and guidance.
  • Utilize program data to deliver targeted coaching and mentoring interventions for community-based HIV prevention providers.
  • Ensure the availability of tools and resources for community-based providers of HIV prevention services.
  • Conduct spot checks and data quality audits to ensure the accuracy and reliability of program data.
  • Ensure the availability and adherence to standard operating procedures, guidelines, and data collection tools at all levels of service provision.
  • Lead community-based surveillance of adverse events and reporting, following established guidelines and protocols.
  • Drive the implementation of continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance the quality and uptake of biomedical HIV prevention services.
  • Maintain accurate records of program inputs, community health worker workload, and uptake data using program tools and data repositories.
  • Compile and submit comprehensive weekly and monthly reports to the Field Services Coordinator.
  • Build the capacity of all providers on the proper use of program data collection tools.
  • Develop budgets for biomedical HIV prevention activities and ensure appropriate utilization of allocated funds.
  • Verify and process per diem claims, time sheets, and invoices for service delivery and demand creation teams.
  • Follow up on payments and effectively track financial transactions to ensure timely and accurate processing.
  • Conduct regular checks on program vehicles and assets to ensure proper maintenance and accountability.
  • Coordinate logistics, quantification, and distribution of IEC/Promo materials in the assigned area of operations.
  • Effectively manage program assets and resources in line with organizational policies.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant Degree or Diploma in a health-related or social sciences discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of proven experience in working with communities on biomedical HIV prevention programs, including VMMC.
  • Previous NGO experience in a similar field position within the local context.
  • In-depth understanding of the Zimbabwean public health system.
  • Valid motorbike license and demonstrated ability to ride.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
