Akashinga is seeking a highly qualified and motivated General Reserve Manager to join our team at the Akashinga West camp. This role offers a remarkable opportunity to experience nature in its purest form while making significant contributions to wildlife and habitat protection in Zimbabwe. As the General Reserve Manager, you will oversee various aspects of Akashinga, including day-to-day camp management, community relations, habitat protection and security, ecological monitoring, and maintenance of ecological records.

The General Reserve Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Akashinga West camp. This includes establishing and maintaining relationships with local communities and stakeholders, ensuring habitat protection and security, overseeing ecological monitoring, and maintaining accurate ecological records.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the departments on site and provide support for their effective functioning:
    • Operations:
      • Ensure the security and effectiveness of anti-poaching operations in the area of responsibility.
    • Habitat:
      • Develop and implement the Akashinga habitat management plan, including supporting ecological survey activities and maintaining accurate records.
      • Supervise ecological conservation activities such as fire management, soil conservation, and GIS data capture.
      • Ensure routine repairs and maintenance of all property equipment and infrastructure to ensure staff and visitor safety and the efficient operation of the reserve.
    • Community:
      • Implement the community strategic plan to promote effective reserve management, advance conservation outcomes in the region, and foster community relationships and participation in Akashinga’s work.
    • Kitchen:
      • Ensure the effective running of the kitchen, including providing healthy vegan food for staff members and managing logistics.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Akashinga West program:
    • Compile monthly reports and incident reports as required.
    • Develop close working relationships with neighboring conservation areas and stakeholders.
    • Maintain cleanliness, tidiness, and orderliness of the camp at all times.
    • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements, including legislative regulations and the Akashinga Code of Conduct.
    • Collaborate with the HR Manager in human resources management, including conducting performance interviews for key staff.
    • Identify gaps in staff and organizational capacity and work with the Country Manager and HR Manager to address these issues.
    • Implement incident response, search and rescue procedures, field worker safety, medical emergency procedures, and natural disaster contingency procedures.
    • Ensure adherence to SOPs, Code of Conduct & Ethics.
    • Oversee petty cash management and record-keeping.
    • Manage the financial aspects of the Akashinga West operating budget, including reporting variances on a weekly basis to the Country Manager.
    • Regularly report to and liaise with the Country Manager.


  • Recognized qualification in Ecological, Environment or Wildlife Management.
  • MBA or any relevant Master’s Degree.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar position.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and web-based applications is essential.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Clean driver’s license.
