Job Description

Our client, a Trust dedicated to providing agricultural support services to communal farmers, is seeking a Field Officer to join their team. With a commitment to empowering local communities and fostering sustainable agricultural practices, our client plays a vital role in driving rural development and improving livelihoods.

They collaborate closely with community stakeholders, agri-focused government departments, and NGOs to create positive change in the agricultural sector.

Our client is looking for a proactive and knowledgeable Field Officer to join their dynamic team in Marondera. As a Field Officer, you will be responsible for implementing agricultural extension programs and providing support to communal farmers.

You will work closely with community stakeholders, government departments, and NGOs to promote sustainable farming practices and enhance agricultural productivity. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of rural communities through agriculture.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-the-ground assessments and provide technical advice and guidance to communal farmers on best agricultural practices.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to enhance farmers’ knowledge and skills in various aspects of agriculture, with a focus on maize production.
  • Facilitate community engagement and participation in agricultural initiatives, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing among farmers.
  • Collaborate with government departments and NGOs to ensure the effective implementation of agricultural extension services and programs.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of agricultural interventions, collecting data and generating reports to assess program effectiveness.
  • Assist farmers in accessing relevant resources, including seeds, fertilizers, and other inputs, to support their agricultural activities.
  • Support the establishment and management of demonstration plots to showcase innovative farming techniques and technologies.
  • Provide advice on soil management, pest and disease control, irrigation systems, and other relevant agricultural topics.
  • Conduct regular field visits to assess the progress of farmers, identify challenges, and provide timely interventions.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends and advancements in the agricultural sector, incorporating new knowledge into extension services and programs.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an agricultural extension officer, with a proven track record of community development and working with stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in maize production is essential.
  • Possession of a valid Class 3 (motorbike) license.
  • Willingness to travel to rural areas and spend extended periods in the field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with farmers and diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite.
