Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for suitably qualified and self-driven individuals in a leading diversified conglomerate for Farm Manager.
The successful candidate will be responsible for driving business performance through overseeing and managing the daily operations of the organization’s agricultural business.
The incumbent’s primary goal will be to ensure that the business is profitable and sustainable by developing and implementing effective strategies for production, marketing, and sales.
The ideal candidate must be dynamic with vast experience and knowledge in dairy farming, horticulture, and general agriculture. The person needs to be a strong leader, energetic, highly strategic, entrepreneurial, dynamic, and comfortable in the boardroom and on the farms.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, coordinate, organize, and lead the day-to-day operations of the farm.
- Drive the formulation and implementation of an operational strategy designed to grow business for the farm.
- Ensure robust supervision, guidance, and mentorship for the current Farm Supervisors ensuring a strong performance management culture.
- Drive the increase in yields, and quality and ensure that all budgets are exceeded, and maximum profitability is achieved.
- Assisting in group procurement for farm materials, consumables, and equipment and ensuring all costs are involved.
- Take a lead role in conjunction with the Farm Management in planning, training, budgeting & preparing cash flows.
- Formulate plans and strategies on sales, marketing, and ensuring that the company gets maximum value from farm produce.
- Developing and assisting the head office team on the creation of business plans for new projects and/or new ventures.
- Identifying various opportunities in the export and local markets for farm produce. Monitor and stay abreast of agricultural best practices, trends, and events to ensure improvement, competitive position, and advantage.
- Ensuring export compliance and protocols are in place.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
The ideal Candidate must possess the following.
- A Diploma/Degree in Agriculture, Agriculture Economics, Agribusiness Management, or Horticulture from a reputable college or university.
- A certificate in management is a distinct advantage.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in senior management preferably in export-oriented horticultural cropping setup.
- Proactive and entrepreneurial individual with the ability to analyze problems and formulate practical solutions with a bias towards best practice.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently with a high concern for order and quality.
