Job Description

Our client, a healthcare distribution company based in Harare, specializes in providing essential medical equipment and supplies to healthcare facilities. Committed to improving healthcare outcomes, our client plays a vital role in ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of healthcare services across the region.

Our client is looking for an experienced Engineer to join their dynamic team. As an Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and monitoring equipment used in medical laboratories, ensuring their efficiency to minimize downtime. You will also play a crucial role in configuring automated processes to enhance productivity, reliability, and safety in running machines.

Additionally, you will be involved in designing and testing prototypes of equipment. The successful candidate will have a degree/diploma in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, City N Guilds, Mechatronics, or equivalent. A clean Class 4 Driver’s license is required. The company offers a competitive remuneration package, allowances, and other incentives, which will be discussed during the selection process.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Equipment management: Take responsibility for managing and monitoring the equipment used in medical laboratories, ensuring their proper functioning and maintenance.
  • Ensure efficiency: Implement measures to optimize the efficiency of all laboratory equipment, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity.
  • Automated processes: Configure automated processes to improve the productivity, reliability, and safety of machines within the medical laboratory.
  • Prototype design and testing: Design and test prototypes of equipment, ensuring they meet the required specifications and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders: Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including laboratory staff, technicians, and suppliers, to address equipment-related issues and ensure smooth operations.
  • Perform maintenance tasks: Conduct regular inspections, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and diagnose equipment malfunctions, implementing appropriate corrective actions in a timely manner.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of all equipment-related activities, including maintenance records, repairs, and upgrades.
  • Stay updated: Keep abreast of the latest advancements in laboratory equipment and technology, proactively identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation.
  • Compliance and safety: Adhere to relevant regulations, guidelines, and safety protocols in the handling and operation of laboratory equipment.
  • Training and support: Provide training and technical support to laboratory staff on the proper use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree/Diploma in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, City N Guilds, Mechatronics, or equivalent.
  • Clean Class 4 Driver’s license.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in medical laboratory equipment, hospital equipment, or biomedical engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory equipment and its maintenance requirements.
  • Familiarity with automated processes and their implementation.
  • Proficiency in prototype design and testing.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and precision.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
