Job Description

Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States of America. CRS works to save, protect, and transform lives in need in more than 100 countries, without regard to race, religion, or nationality.

Registered in Zimbabwe under the PVO Act, certificate number 6/2002, CRS has been supporting program activities in Zimbabwe since 1989, with long-standing relationships with Church and non-Church partners and communities throughout the country. CRS implements projects through 14 partner organizations in 30 districts, focusing on areas such as health, OVC, education, food security and agricultural livelihoods, and peacebuilding.

Catholic Relief Services is looking for an experienced Emergency Project Manager to join the organisation’s dynamic team in Bulawayo. As the Emergency Project Manager, you will be responsible for managing, coordinating, and monitoring project activities and relationships with partners and stakeholders.

Your project management skills and knowledge of the program area will contribute to advancing Catholic Relief Services’ work of serving the poor and vulnerable. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on humanitarian efforts in Zimbabwe.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead technical, budget management, monitoring, and reporting activities throughout the project cycle, ensuring compliance with program quality principles, donor requirements, and good practices.
  • Effectively manage and supervise team members, ensuring staff well-being, providing coaching, and contributing to the recruitment process and performance management.
  • Ensure learning accompanies project activities, support accountability through project evaluation activities, and proactively identify and report issues to inform adjustments to plans.
  • Engage and strengthen partnerships relevant to the project, applying appropriate partnership concepts, tools, and approaches.
  • Represent the organization with donors, INGO working groups, UN, local partners, local government, and community actors for agriculture and emergency recovery.
  • Coordinate activities to effectively use financial, material, and human resources, conducting budget reviews, and ensuring timely submission of financial and narrative reports.
  • Identify staff capacity needs and technical assistance requirements, contribute to capacity strengthening, and implement interventions to support project implementation.
  • Assist with the preparation of trends analysis reports and disseminate results.
  • Work with the Program Quality Specialist to ensure the project meets all minimum program quality requirements.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, with a Master’s degree in Development Studies, International Relations, Agriculture, or related discipline being an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in project management, preferably in the field of Food for Assets Interventions.
  • Relevant grant management experience, especially for USG BHA or other public donors, is a plus.
  • Experience working with stakeholders at various levels and strengthening community partnerships.
  • Ability to contribute to the development of technical proposals is a plus.
  • Experience in analyzing data and contributing to evaluation reports.
  • Proficiency in MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
