Job Description

The Public Service Commission is inviting applications to fill the following vacant posts in the Office of the President and Cabinet:-

POST: DIRECTOR, PLANT & EQUIPMENT
REPORTS TO: CHIEF DIRECTOR, OPERATIONS

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Formulate policies, regulations, guidelines, strategies and procedures for the hire and use of vehicles, plant, equipment and machines in the provinces and districts.
  • Manage and control all the vehicles, plant and equipment, machines, aircraft, marine and radio operations
  • Ensure provincial and district plant and equipment workshops throughout the country are properly equipped and providing an effective and efficient service
  • Superintend over the preparation of an annual programme for the procurement and replacement of vehicles; plant and equipment and of disposal of obsolete vehicles, plant and equipment
  • Coordinate the preparation of the Public Sector Investment Programme for the procurement of vehicles , plant and equipment and participate in the discussions with Treasury.
  • Provide technical guidance to the divisional heads and workshop managers
  • Manage the production and submission of reports on plant and equipment on a regular basis to the Chief Director.
  • Establish effective liaison with relevant government departments and other stakeholders in rural land tillage in the Provinces and Districts.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent qualification
  • A relevant advanced degree will be an advantage
  • National Craft Certificate and fleet Management qualification would be an advantage.
  • At least 2 years relevant experience at Deputy Director Level or equivalent grade.
  • Interpersonal skills and experience in research work.
  • Extensive Programme Management Experience.
  • Highly motivated, mature and self-starter.
