Job Description

Our client is looking for a skilled Diesel Plant Fitter to join their dynamic team. Joining their dynamic team will provide an opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and contribute to the maintenance and repair of their plant, equipment, machinery, and vehicles.

As a Diesel Plant Fitter, you will be responsible for diagnosing problems, performing maintenance and repairs, and ensuring compliance with appropriate standards.

Your expertise in interpreting manuals, software, and schematics will be crucial in identifying spare parts and carrying out necessary repairs. This role offers competitive remuneration and allowances based on experience and qualifications.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose problems from electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Access on-board self-diagnostic systems in the engine control unit (ECU) and central processing unit (CPU) and interpret test procedures and results.
  • Ensure that work is performed to comply with appropriate standards.
  • Interpret manuals and software to identify spare parts and liaise with the Workshop Manager regarding parts ordering.
  • Correct and maintain all personal protective clothing and equipment supplied by the company.
  • Carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs on the company’s plant, equipment, machinery, and vehicles as directed.
  • Perform routine duties in accordance with established and documented processes as required.
  • Diagnose faults in machinery/vehicle systems and rectify them.
  • Undertake other duties relevant to the position as requested.
  • Attend breakdowns and vehicle retrievals if required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certified Class 1 Diesel Plant Fitting.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-apprenticeship experience in the relevant discipline.
  • Valid Class 4 Driver’s License.
  • Apprenticeship trained plus 5 ‘O’ Levels, including Maths, English, and Science.
  • Millwrights Certificate is an added advantage.
