Midlands State University (MSU) is looking for a talented and creative Creative Pattern Maker and Garment Technician to join the university’s dynamic team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in developing strong designs that align with the MSU Enterprises brand’s DNA and have high sell-through potential.

You will be responsible for creating seasonal concepts, sketching and developing design ideas, and utilizing CAD software to bring your visions to life. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the university’s fashion enterprise division and make a significant impact in the clothing and textiles industry.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop strong and innovative designs that align with the MSU Enterprises brand.
  • Create seasonal concepts for new products, incorporating current fashion trends.
  • Draw, sketch, and develop design ideas, ensuring attention to detail and creativity.
  • Utilize CAD software to translate design concepts into digital sketches.
  • Generate comprehensive technical packs for production, including accurate measurements and specifications.
  • Collaborate closely with the Production department to ensure proper fit, design, construction, and adherence to timelines.
  • Liaise with the Sales and Marketing Unit to gather market feedback and assess sell-through potential.
  • Assist in tracking samples throughout the production process, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends, techniques, and innovations in garment production.
  • Adhere to key dates on the critical path for project completion, ensuring efficient workflow and meeting deadlines.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • National Diploma (ND) in Fashion Design/Cutting and Design or a related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the clothing and textiles industry.
  • Ability to interpret trends and translate them into designs with commercial value.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for fashion design.
  • Strong understanding of garment construction techniques and fabric properties.
  • Excellent attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities within a team environment.
