Job Description

The Tobacco Industry & Marketing Board (TIMB) is a regulatory and advisory statutory board in Zimbabwe, responsible for controlling and regulating the growing, marketing, and exporting of tobacco.

Established in 1936 through the Tobacco Marketing and Levy Act, TIMB oversees the selling of tobacco through Auction Floors and Contract floors. The board serves the interests of tobacco growers, buyers, and other stakeholders in the industry.

TIMB is looking for four dedicated Tobacco Classifiers to join our dynamic team on a fixed-term contract basis. As a Tobacco Classifier, you will play a crucial role in awarding accurate tobacco grades, ensuring proper tobacco presentation, identifying storage pests, and grading crop assessment samples. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Award correct tobacco grades to all tobacco offered for sale ahead of the selling line.
  • Handle cases of improper and suspicious tobacco presentation decisively.
  • Identify storage pests and symptoms of infestations on tobacco bales offered for sale.
  • Accurately grade collected crop assessment samples.
  • Periodically check the accuracy of tobacco weighing scales.
  • Maintain excellent report writing skills to document findings and actions taken.
  • Demonstrate a high level of maturity and responsibility in executing duties.
  • Uphold trustworthiness and integrity in all aspects of work.
  • Pay meticulous attention to detail in the classification process.
  • Utilize critical, analytical, and investigative skills to ensure accurate grading.
  • Foster effective interpersonal communication with colleagues and stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Diploma/Degree in Agriculture or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • At least 3 years’ Certificate in Tobacco Classification from TIMB.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Tobacco Classification.
