Transparency International Zimbabwe (TIZ) is a local non-governmental organization operating in the governance sector. Our mission is to combat corruption and promote transparency, accountability, and integrity in Zimbabwe. Through our advocacy efforts and communication strategies, we strive to raise awareness, engage stakeholders, and drive positive change in the country.

Transparency International Zimbabwe (TIZ) is looking for a skilled and passionate Communications and Advocacy Specialist to join our dynamic team. As the Communications and Advocacy Specialist, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing communication and outreach strategies, managing media and partner relations, overseeing the organization’s online presence, and leading the development and dissemination of our visibility.

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to contribute to the fight against corruption and promote good governance in Zimbabwe.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the organizational communication strategy.
  • Design, develop, and implement communication strategies, including media strategies, to enhance outreach and advocacy efforts.
  • Monitor and analyze print and social media, preparing reports on key findings and trends.
  • Facilitate training and workshops on communication and advocacy for staff and stakeholders.
  • Identify and develop new communication partnerships and alliances, nurturing existing partnerships to enhance visibility.
  • Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, updating and managing a relevant media database.
  • Liaise with advocacy partners, civil society organizations, governments, and development partners to ensure effective dissemination of newsworthy information.
  • Collaborate closely with other staff to ensure consistency with corporate policies, messaging, and initiatives.
  • Respond promptly and clearly to media inquiries and various information requests, preparing related correspondence and providing necessary background information.
  • Organize roundtable discussions, press conferences, and briefings with media representatives.
  • Oversee and maintain the organization’s websites, coordinating design and content updates.
  • Manage social media accounts in line with corporate social media policy.
  • Develop and produce communication and advocacy materials, such as policy briefs, press releases, and articles, ensuring their effective dissemination.
  • Identify advocacy opportunities, activities, approaches, and platforms, fostering partnerships to amplify impact.
  • Engage and supervise video producers to create audio/visual materials showcasing the organization’s work.
  • Develop brochures, factsheets, and stories from the field to inform the media and the general public at local and national levels.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, public relations, journalism, or a relevant field.
  • Alternatively, a first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted.
  • At least 5 years of professional work experience in public relations, communications, or advocacy at the national or international level, including media relations.
  • Experience in social media management and outreach.
  • Knowledge of local country media landscape.
  • Strong communication, networking, and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to communicate sensitively, effectively, and creatively across different constituencies.
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken) is required; knowledge of local languages is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of production, graphic design, and photography standards.
  • Ability to provide strategic and analytical advice.
  • Knowledge of gender and human rights issues is a plus.
