Job Description

Our client is looking for a skilled Clearing Controller to join their dynamic team in Harare. As a Clearing Controller, you will play a crucial role in overseeing and managing the customs clearance process for import and export shipments.

You will ensure compliance with customs regulations and requirements while coordinating with various stakeholders to facilitate smooth clearance procedures. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented individual with a strong understanding of customs legislation and procedures to contribute to the success of a leading company in the freight and logistics industry.


  • Manage the customs clearance process for import and export shipments, ensuring strict compliance with customs regulations and requirements.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with suppliers, shipping lines, customs officials, and other relevant parties to facilitate seamless and efficient clearance procedures.
  • Provide effective leadership to a team of clearing staff, offering guidance, training, and support as needed.
  • Monitor and track the progress of clearance activities, ensuring timely delivery of shipments and proactively addressing any delays or issues that may arise.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to customs clearance processes, ensuring proper documentation for audit purposes.
  • Stay updated with changes in customs legislation and procedures, and effectively communicate these changes to the team, ensuring compliance at all times.
  • Resolve any issues or discrepancies that may occur during the customs clearance process, working closely with internal and external stakeholders to find appropriate solutions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including operations and customer service, to ensure smooth coordination and exceptional customer satisfaction throughout the clearance process.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement strategies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the clearing operations.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and best practices, continuously enhancing your knowledge and skills to contribute to the company’s growth and success.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Diploma in Customs Legislation and Procedures is a must.
  • Degree in Supply Chain Management is an added advantage.
  • Diploma in Shipping and Logistics or an equivalent qualification is preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of working experience in customs clearance, preferably in the freight and logistics industry.
  • Strong knowledge of customs regulations, procedures, and documentation requirements.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in record-keeping.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications.
