Canonbury Junior School is looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Bursar to join our dynamic team. As a Bursar, you will play a crucial role in managing the school’s financial operations, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.

This full-time position offers an opportunity to contribute to the financial well-being of the institution and support its educational mission.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Handle financial transactions, including processing invoices and payments.
  • Efficiently manage billing, receipting, and allocation of receipts in the Accounting System.
  • Collaborate with school administration to develop and implement effective financial policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and oversee the school’s financial systems and software, ensuring their efficiency and accuracy.
  • Prepare and maintain management accounts, including cash flows, income and expenditure statements, and statements of financial position.
  • Initiate and reconcile payments, ensuring timely and accurate financial transactions.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and manage inventory effectively.
  • Perform reconciliations, post vouchers into the accounting system, and ensure accurate record-keeping.
  • Prepare for audits and actively participate in the audit process.
  • Contribute to the preparation of the budget and actively participate in its implementation.
  • Undertake additional accounting and finance duties as delegated by superiors.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Higher National Diploma/Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Professional qualification in accounting such as CIS, ACCA, CIMA (an added advantage).
  • Proven experience in a similar role, preferably within an educational institution.
  • Strong understanding of QuickBooks.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and financial management.
  • Proficiency in financial software and systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
