Job Description

Our client, a leading retail company based in Harare, is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Accountant to join their finance department. With a commitment to operational excellence and financial integrity, our client strives to deliver exceptional services to their customers and stakeholders.

As an Accountant, you will be responsible for managing financial transactions, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. Relevant qualifications and a minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting, preferably within the retail industry, are required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day financial operations of the retail company, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Monitor and reconcile bank statements, ensuring accuracy and resolving any discrepancies.
  • Conduct month-end and year-end closing procedures, including journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of financial transactions, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, providing insights and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather financial data and support decision-making processes.
  • Prepare and submit statutory reports and tax returns in compliance with local regulations.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Conduct periodic financial analysis, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist with the coordination of external audits and provide necessary documentation and support.
  • Stay updated on changes in accounting standards and regulations, ensuring compliance and recommending necessary adjustments.
  • Support the finance team in ad-hoc projects and financial initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting, preferably within the retail sector.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in using accounting software and MS Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in working with ERP systems is a plus.
