Job Description

A reputable Harare-based credit-only microfinance institution that provides reliable financial services to individuals and communities in Zimbabwe is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Accountant to join their team and help manage their financial operations.

The Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial operations of the microfinance institution, including bookkeeping, financial reporting, and budgeting.

The successful candidate will work closely with the management team to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the institution.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant laws, statutory and regulatory requirements, including preparing returns to RBZ and ZIMRA.
  • Compiling and analyze financial information to prepare financial statements.
  • Recording of all income and expenditure transactions in the accounting system and loan management system.
  • Maintaining financial records in compliance with accepted policies and procedures.
  • Preparing loan portfolio reports.
  • Preparing for financial audit and coordinate the audit process.
  • Carrying out human resources activities such as employees record keeping and processing of salaries.
  • Preparing financial statements and reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
  • Preparing and presenting financial reports to management and the board of directors
  • Developing and implementing financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements
  • Managing the budgeting process and preparing budgets and forecasts
  • Managing cash flow and ensuring adequate liquidity to meet the institution’s financial obligations
  • Coordinating with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure compliance with tax and regulatory requirements
  • Providing regular reports to management on financial performance and operations
  • Assisting with other tasks and projects as needed

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree or other professional qualification in Accounting or equivalent
  • At least 2 years of experience in microfinance environment
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
