BUSE is currently seeking an Accommodation Officer to join the university’s dynamic team. As an Accommodation Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing the allocation of rooms to students residing in the halls of residence on campus.

Additionally, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing systems for hall maintenance, key control, and check-in/check-out procedures. Join BUSE and contribute to the vibrant campus life at the university.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the residence hall(s) or apartments.
  • Develop and utilize efficient check-in and check-out procedures for the halls.
  • Maintain an accurate occupancy/roster and effectively manage key control and inventory.
  • Attend various meetings, including department meetings, staff meetings, committee meetings, and one-on-one meetings.
  • Serve as an active member of Residence Life committees.
  • Maintain administrative and informational records related to accommodation management.
  • Supervise cleaning staff to ensure cleanliness and a conducive environment within the halls of residence.
  • Conduct exterior building inspections twice per semester or during breaks when buildings are closed.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Services to address building needs and coordinate preventive maintenance projects.
  • Monitor all public area facilities and utilize a damage control board/improvement committee as necessary. Ensure appropriate student account charges for damages in private and public areas.
  • Foster positive working relationships with services and other facilities personnel.
  • Coordinate and supervise the proper usage of common rooms and public spaces during programs and activities.
  • Ensure regular halls meetings are held.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive security program. Coordinate emergency procedures, including power outages, fire drills, medical emergencies, and security threats.
  • Educate residents about emergency procedures and maintain appropriate communication with Campus Security.
  • Engage with families and other support networks to create a conducive environment for student success.
  • Regularly access all floors and public areas of the building(s) to fulfill supervision, community building, education, health and safety, and facilities management duties. This includes conducting floor and building inspections, responding to emergencies, addressing student policy violations, and addressing safety concerns.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, Counselling, or a business-related field.
  • Prior experience in residence life management is required.
  • A Master’s degree would be an added advantage.
  • At least one (1) year of supervisory experience in halls of residence.
